Outside of his professional commitments, Ralph Vartanian supports various nonprofits, including Susan G. Komen.
Susan G. Komen recently announced a partnership with Heron Therapeutics to increase awareness of the need for new supportive care treatments in the fight against breast cancer. The importance of such an initiative is paramount, as supportive care is a vital component of helping manage side effects so that women can complete all of their chemotherapy visits.
Nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy treatment are some of the most difficult side effects for women to endure. The need to develop supportive care options to help manage these symptoms is a high priority among cancer physicians, given the lack of effective treatments currently available.
To that end, Komen and Heron launched a fundraising effort, dubbed the Herron Matching Program, that matched all funds dollar for dollar that were donated during Komen’s year-end giving campaign. Along with another partner, Heron also contributed $250,000 to the Komen organization.
